Bible Study Review January 5, 2011 1John 5:5-12 The Word of God tells us we can overcome the world by our belief in Jesus Christ. Now, Jesus came by water (His baptism) and blood (His death on the cross). The Holy Spirit bears witness to it all. Verse 7 speaks to the Holy Trinity that bear record in heaven. The Father, the Word (the Son) and the Holy Ghost--all are one. Also, there are three that bear witness to our ability to overcome the world, here on earth--The Holy Spirit, the water and the blood. Jesus left the Holy Spirit here as our comforter. The water symbolizes the baptism that occurs in each one of us when we confess our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Prior to our confession we were the walking dead due to our sinfulness. We are born again through our baptism. The blood represents the blood Jesus shed when he died at the cross. That blood was literally shed here on earth. In order to overcome the world we can not put more stock in what man says, then what God says in His Word. When we chose to believe man over God we are making God a liar. God gave us eternal life and if you don't believe, you don't have eternal life. So, to all our loved ones, it is our duty to sow into them, how to get eternal life. Keep in mind, we should not get upset when someone dead in Christ does not respond the way we would like. Our job is not to get sinners to stop sinners. Leave that to the Holy Spirt. There are three witnesses here on earth. Stop trying to do the job of all three. Just keeping watering and sowing. Chamane
